Bariatric Surgery

Gastric Sleeve (VSG)

The gastric sleeve, also known as vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG), is a type of bariatric surgery where the surgeon removes a large portion of the stomach, leaving a sleeve-shaped organ that is about 20–25% of its original size. This procedure helps weight loss by reducing the amount of food that can be consumed and lowering the level of hunger hormones produced by the stomach. It is one of the most commonly performed bariatric operations worldwide and offers significant long-term results for many patients.

Gastric Bypass (RNY)

The Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RNY) is a weight loss surgery in which the stomach is divided into a small pouch and connected directly to the small intestine. This allows food to bypass part of the stomach and intestine, reducing calorie absorption as well as limiting portion size. Unlike gastric sleeve, RNY works through both restriction and malabsorption. It is considered highly effective for long-term weight control, especially in patients with higher BMI or obesity-related conditions such as diabetes.

One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB-MGB)

The one anastomosis gastric bypass (OAGB-MGB), also called mini gastric bypass, is a shorter and less invasive version of the traditional Roux-en-Y bypass. In this procedure, the surgeon creates a narrow stomach pouch and connects it to the small intestine with a single anastomosis. This reduces the length of the operation and allows faster recovery. OAGB achieves weight loss through both restriction and malabsorption, while also being technically simpler, minimally invasive, and associated with effective long-term outcomes.

SADI-S

The SADI-S is a surgery for weight loss that combines the components of the gastric sleeve surgery and duodenal switch surgery, and can provide greater weight loss and metabolic improvements. It can be a good choice for individuals with higher BMIs and who have had previous bariatric procedures but failed to maintain their weight loss goals.

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)

Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) is a minimally invasive non-surgical weight loss procedure that involves using an endoscope inserted through the mouth to reduce the size of the stomach without surgery. The reduction in stomach volume is attained by folding and suturing the stomach instead of removing a portion of it.
